About Maria
Maria has had a life-long love of fashion design.
Maria has been designing and creating custom clothing ever since she can remember, making clothes for her dolls, then designing and making many of her own clothes. She initially learned from her mother, an accomplished seamstress.
For over 20 years Maria has built experience and expertise working in multiple facets of the the fashion business, including:
- Working with design teams drafting and grading patterns for children's wear, making primary samples for display at showrooms around the country.
- Crafting women's leather wear — jackets, vests, and chaps— including detailing with fringes, braiding, appliques, beading, and studs.
- Creating and coordinating wedding gowns, including dresses and accessories for the bride, bridesmaids, and mother of the groom and of the bride.
- Fashioning detailing and custom outfits for individual artists and musicians, as well as costumes for amateur dramatic productions and costumes for holiday parties.
- Creating custom figure-skating outfits (both independently and with a skating studio), for girls age 8-through-adult, and for some boys and men, doing pattern-drafting through detailing.
- Providing consultation about fabric selection. She is experienced working with velvet, velour, chiffon, silk, lace, brocade, stretch lycra and spandex, mesh, denim, and leather.
