About MargoDocs

Experience

I have professional experience producing a wide range of documentation, for clients large and small. For all types of deliverables, I have presented clear content organization and visually balanced page layouts in addition to the core writing and editing.

User-interface factors have always been an important consideration, and I prefer to get hands-on experience with the product or service I am writing about so that I can put myself in the user’s position.

What’s in a Name?

Because margodocs had been a consistent part of my email address for years, I adopted the name as a trademark for documentation, and later for website creation.

I have discovered, though, that ‘documentation’ is a term that people usually associate with written work and not necessarily with electronic media. For web work, I am transitioning to a new name and a new website — CommuniCrafter™ — to focus on my web portfolio.

Tools and Technologies

The following list summarizes the range of tools I have used.

• Word and FrameMaker for documents and manuals;
  FrameMaker preferred for longer or more complex works
• Acrobat for PDF files (Portable Document Format)
• PageMaker (forerunner to InDesign) for internal company newsletters;
  InDesign learned through CD tutorials
• RoboHelp and Microsoft Help Workshop for Windows-based help systems;
  Dreamweaver for HTML Help (can also hand-code HTML and CSS)
• PaintShop Pro and Photoshop for graphics creation and graphics editing;
  currently moving to Adobe Creative Suite
• Access database for internal company projects, including a large language-updating project; also a donor database for a nonprofit organization
• MySQL database learned (and continuing to learn more)
• XML and basic XSLT course work (and continuing to learn more)
• PHP, Javascript, and Javascript DOM scripting for various web sites
• HTML, DHTML, XHTML — by direct coding or in any GUI editor (such as Dreamweaver)
• CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) — by direct coding or in any GUI editor
